What to Expect During the CLL Season
This page provides a general overview of what to expect at each division level, including the typical number of games and practices, where teams play, and how the season is structured. For an overview of the different divisions of play, please see this page.
Final schedules are not created until after registration closes each spring, when we know how many teams we will have in each division and can finalize field availability. All games take place Monday through Thursday, with Fridays available as make-up days for rain-outs. The information below reflects typical schedules and time commitments, but exact days and times may vary from year to year.
SEASON DATES AND LENGTH
Tee Ball, Rookie, Single A, Double A:
Teams are formed in early April after registration closes, and coaches typically have two to three weeks for pre-season practices to meet players and work on fundamentals before games begin. The game schedule is also finalized in April. Games begin in May and run through mid-June. All games take place at Crystal Lake Sports Fields.
AAA and Majors:
Teams are formed in March following the skills evaluation. Games begin the week after spring break at OSU’s Student Legacy Park fields. In May, all games move to Crystal Lake Sports Fields. The AAA and Majors season ends in mid- to late-May with a tournament of champions. This allows for All Star teams to practice in June.
EQUIPMENT
Corvallis Little League provides several pieces of team equipment. Each team is provided with:
- Team bats
- Batting helmets
- Catching gear (Single A and above)
Players are required to bring their own baseball glove. Many players also choose to bring their own bat and helmet, though this is optional.
Each player receives a team jersey and team hat. Beginning at the Single A level and above (Single A, Double A, AAA, and Majors), baseball cleats are strongly recommended and often required for safe play.
TIME COMMITMENT AT EACH DIVISION LEVEL
Tee Ball:
Tee Ball is designed as a fun introduction to baseball for our youngest players. Teams typically have two games per week that last about one hour, starting at 5:30 PM.
Coaches generally hold a few pre-season practices to introduce players to the basics before games begin. Once the season starts, many Tee Ball teams focus primarily on the games themselves rather than holding separate weekly practices.
Rookie:
Rookie division builds on the fundamentals introduced in Tee Ball. Families can typically expect two games per week and possibly one additional practice (optional at this level).
Single A:
Single A introduces more structured gameplay as players continue developing their baseball skills. Games may last longer than one hour at this level. Expect two games per week plus one additional practice.
Double A:
Double A continues to build on player development for our older players and introduces longer games and more competitive play. Families should expect two games per week and up to two additional practices per week. Games typically last 90 minutes.
AAA and Majors:
AAA and Majors are our two competitive play divisions. CLL keeps scores, player stats and standings at this level, and players are eligible for All Star postseason play. Families can expect two games per week, April through mid-May plus at least one practice per week. All games will be at least 90 minutes long.
During April, AAA and Majors games are played at Oregon State University’s Student Legacy Park fields. Because game times depend on field availability at these fields, there may occasionally be Friday evening games or Saturday afternoon games. In May, all games move to Crystal Lake Sports Fields.
The AAA and Majors seasons concludes with a one-week Tournament of Champions in mid-May, which allows time for the formation of All-Star teams in June.
